The 14th edition of the Asia Cup is all set to be played in the UAE from September 15. All five of the Asian Test playing nations will take part in this event, and an associate nation of the ICC will also get a chance in the tournament and will be picked from a qualifier that is in progress in Malaysia.

Bangladesh cricket team has already started off their preparation camp for the forthcoming tournament. The best memories of the Tigers from the Asia Cup remain to be the two final appearances. But, this time around they are hoping for much more from the competition of Asian cricket.

Bangladesh will start the tournament in the opening day against Sri Lanka, who have played them quite a few times in the recent past. Then, they have to play against Afghanistan on August 20. If Bangladesh qualify in the group phase, they will make their appearance in the super four.

The Tigers have many stars in the team, but none of them has tasted a trophy in a multi-national tournament. Things might change for them, next time around. Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has already urged his team to prepare themselves in a bid to perform well in the championship.

We looked at the preliminary squad of Bangladesh for the tournament and found five stars who can win Asia Cup for the Tigers.

It was uncertain for Bangladesh’s premium all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to feature in the Asia Cup for his injured finger. He was prepared to attain full fitness before taking the field. But he changed his mind after a request from the BCB boss Nazmul Hassan. Shakib has now decided to get the surgery of his finger done after the Asia Cup.

Shakib is the most experienced cricketer of Bangladesh team and he has been in superb form in recent times. He was one of the best performers of the national team during their successful tour of West Indies, where he took five wickets and hit three half-centuries in six limited-over matches.

Shakib can play the main role for Bangladesh in the T20 event to change their unwanted fortune of not winning a single multi-nation tournament. Bangladesh can rely on his vast experience of 500 international wickets and 10 thousand international runs.
