MS Dhoni is inarguably one of the most famous names in world cricket right now. From being a ‘nobody’ in 2004, when the world first heard his name, to being recognised as arguably the best captain in the history of the game today in 2019, Mahi has come really a long way. The story of Dhoni’s hard work, dedication, his and his struggles in tough circumstances, is so inspiring that anyone who listens to it, will learn a thing or two from it without fail. The cool and calm temperament of the former captain of the Indian Cricket Team has not only earned him applause from the fans and experts off the field, but it has also helped him win a lot of trophies on it. MS made his international debut at the age of 23 against Bangladesh in December 2004, before gradually climbing up the ladder and captaining probably the strongest Indian side of all time. Surprisingly, some youngsters who weren’t even aged 5 when MS Dhoni made his international debut, are now playing in the IPL this year against or with him! Here’s a list of 5 players who weren’t even 5 years old when Captain Cool made his debut: 1. Riyan Parag Riyan Parag. Riyan, who made his T20 debut for Assam at the start of 2017 when he was only 15, has looked bright and capable ever since. The 17-year-old was a part of the India U19 squad for the World Cup last year and played a key role in his team’s triumph in the championship. Parag, a capable right-handed batsman and a decent leggie, who now plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, despite his short cricketing career so far, has already had some moments of magic on the field and he would undoubtedly love to add to them. Born on the 10th of November in 2001, Riyan was only three years old when the genius named MS Dhoni played his first International match. He played against the veteran cricketer a couple of days ago in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and it must have been a dream come true for Riyan Parag. 2. Mujeeb Ur Rahman Kings XI Punjab’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman. (Photo by IANS) The talented young spinner from Afghanistan is the first human in the world, born in the 21st century, to play international cricket – a literally unbreakable record! He is a very capable lad, who can, and even has troubled some of the biggest names in world cricket with his beautiful variations. After playing for Afghanistan on a few occasions, he was picked by the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) last year. Mujeeb impressed one and all in the highly competitive league, thus, retaining his spot in the KXIP line-up for this season. The off-spinner has been praised widely for his performances at the international level as well as in T20 leagues like the BBL and IPL. Given his age and talent, Rahman is destined to go far. The youngster was not even 4 years old when Dhoni made his debut. 3. Prayas Ray Barman Prayas Ray Barman. (Photo Source: Twitter) Prayas, the Bengali kid, is the youngest player to ever play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He achieved this feat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad while playing for Virat Kohli‘s Royal Challengers Bangalore, a week or so ago. Although he hasn’t got a chance to play another IPL match till now, as things didn’t go his way in the only match he featured in, the teenager is still said to be a wonderful cricketer as he has done a decent job for Bengal’s limited-overs’ team recently. Young Prayas, at just 16, is sharing the dressing room with two of the greatest batsmen, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, in world cricket today. That’s nothing less than a dream come true for a teenager. He still has a long way to go and earn himself a name on the cricket field, but for now, let’s see how he performs if and when he gets another game. The talented leggie was just two years old when MS Dhoni first represented India. 4. Washington Sundar Washington Sundar. (Photo: IANS) Washington Sundar is another player who wasn’t even 5 years old when the Indian legend MS Dhoni entered international cricket. The 19-year-old has played for India and done well, although he’s not quite in the scheme of things these days. A quality spinner with good fielding skills, Washington always has a lot to offer to whichever team he plays for. He is a part of RCB’s squad this season. Sundar, after Ravi Ashwin‘s injury, was called for trials by Rising Pune Supergiant alongside the experienced Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Parvez Rasool, for IPL 2017. He not only had to be better than Parvez Rasool on that day but also had to bowl to and impress quality batsmen like Steven Smith, if at all he wanted to be a part of the IPL that year. As it turned out, the young Tamil Nadu cricketer did both and went on to make his IPL debut. He performed magnificently that season, but couldn’t win the IPL as RPS lost the final to Mumbai Indians by just 1 run to finish as runners-up. 5. Rasikh Salam Rasikh Salam. (Photo Source: IANS) The 18-year-old Jammu and Kashmir pacer made his IPL debut earlier this season for the three-time Champions Mumbai Indians. But unfortunately for him, just like Prayas Ray Barman, Rasikh hasn’t been given a second chance yet, as the first one didn’t go well for him. Given his ability to move the ball a fair bit while consistently bowling in the mid-130s, Rasikh can be called a bright youngster who could potentially be a future international pacer. Although the young Kashmiri lad doesn’t have much experience under his belt yet, he certainly has shown glimpses of his skills to everyone in his short career for J&K. With a long way still to go and his skills, the youngster will only improve from here on. Salam was born on the 5th of April in 2001. He was less than 4 years old when MSD received his maiden international cap.
