The COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed the world as we saw earlier. After the outbreak of this disease, several efforts have been made by all countries to contain its transmission. This led to the imposition of severe lockdown and curfew in various countries suspending all cultural, sports and economic activities.

Since international travel was also suspended, a temporary pause had to be applied on conducting bilateral series between International teams as well as tournaments like the IPL. It has been almost three months since a major cricket event has taken place and now when the situation is gradually coming under control, boards have started planning their calendars. As far as BCCI is concerned, successful organization of the cash-rich league is their topmost priority.

There is a high probability of IPL being conducted in the September-October window if the World T20 is postponed and the pandemic situation is brought under control. Many boards have also made offers to the BCCI to conduct the league in their countries. However, the hosting of the league in their own country would definitely be preferable to the Indian board.

Here we look at 5 Indian venues which can host IPL 2020:

The hill-station houses one of the most beautiful and scenic cricket stadiums all over the world. The HPCA stadium in Dharamsala has always been a fan-favourite because of its picturesque location. Unlike a few other grounds on this list, this stadium has a rich history of hosting both IPL as well as International matches.

Established in 2003, it has a seating capacity of 2003. Despite its relatively smaller size, the stadium has acted as a home ground for the Kings XI Punjab for many seasons in IPL. Every season, at least 2-3 matches of the Mohali based franchise are conducted in this stadium. It also hosted a few matches during the World T20 2016.

Himachal Pradesh is one of the least affected states in India which makes this ground an obvious choice to host matches in the IPL. Presently, there are about 200 active cases in Himachal with the recovered cases being already much more than the active ones. Thus, it is one of the safest options to conduct a few matches in the cash-rich league.
