This is one of the most recent instances. Dhoni was at his vintage best when he hit 18 from just the 6 balls against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the first Qualifier of the IPL 2021. Among all his fans who praised this knock, Kohli was one of them.

India’s current captain took to his Twitter handle and called Dhoni “The best finisher”. “Anddddd the King is back. the greatest finisher in the game. Made me jump Outta my seat once again tonight.” This is what his tweet initially read. However, he was quick to delete this tweet as he forgot to add the word “Ever”

“Anddddd the king is back the greatest finisher ever in the game. Made me jump Outta my seat once again tonight.” This was what Kohli’s final tweet about Dhoni’s finish looked like. It unsurprisingly went viral. Indian fans all across the internet were in awe of Kohli’s inner Dhoni fan.

Before becoming the Indian captain, Kohli was the vice-captain and use to play under Dhoni. He had mentioned several times how he was continuously backed by the former Indian captain. As a matter of fact, the top-order batsman has gone on record to even say that Dhoni has saved him from getting dropped many times.

Back when the legend was playing his final World Cup in 2019, the current captain didn’t shy away from speaking about the former captain’s legacy. “When a person has done so much for the team you have to appreciate and acknowledge what he’s done for Indian cricket. From that point of view, we are all very grateful for what he’s done for Indian cricket and for us. And he’s always been in a very happy, jovial mood all the time,” said Kohli.

He also spoke about how his respect for Dhoni is sky-high. “From the respect point of view for MS, it’s always going to be sky-high, especially in my eyes, because I know how difficult it can be to make a transition of captaining the team and then just playing as a player after being captain for so many years and still not being too assertive or too pushy in anything. He gives you space to make your own decisions and to actually discover yourself. That’s been his biggest quality.”

The current CSK skipper is arguably one of the greatest international cricket captains as well. He happens to be the only captain to win all the ICC trophies during his time. Thus, his quitting captaincy back in 2017 came as a shock.

However, despite that, he happily played under Kohli until the 2019 WC. As he, later on, announced his retirement from international cricket in 2019, the entire cricket fraternity congratulated him on a glorious career. This included the current Indian captain Virat Kohli as well.

In a video posted by BCCI on Twitter, Kohli said that Dhoni will always be his captain. “You’ve shown faith and belief in me which I’ll always be grateful for. I wish you the best in the next phase of your life, a lot of peace and a lot of happiness. “I’ve always said this and I will say it again, you will always be my captain.” said the batting maestro in the video.

The bromance between Kohli and Dhoni is something that has been talked about time and again. It isn’t shocking that Kohli also happens to be one of the biggest admirers of the legendary finisher himself. This can be clearly seen in a video that went viral back in 2018.

It was during a game between CSK and RCB. Despite CSK beating RCB thanks to a Dhoni special, Dhoni and Kohli were seen embracing each other. The sheer respect the two had for each other won everyone’s heart.

It isn’t every day where you see two opposition captains hugging each other as if they were some long-lost brothers. This pic went viral and what followed was a flurry of memes. CSK however ended up beating RCB once again in that season and went on to win the title in 2018.
