The Indian batters showcased outstanding performance in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka at the PCA Stadium in Mohali as they declared their innings after posting a mammoth total of 574/8. This is a special occasion for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While this is Rohit’s first captaincy assignment in red-ball cricket, Kohli is making his 100th Test appearance.

While wicketkeeper batter-Rishabh Pant agonizingly missed out on a deserving century by just four runs, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a splendid knock in the middle-order and ensured that the hosts did not suffer a batting collapse. However, as he was on the verge of a milestone, the innings had to be declared in the team’s cause. But, Jadeja’s is not the only instance as there are a few of them.

The latest addition to the list is none other than Ravindra Jadeja himself who was India’s savior with the bat scoring an unbeaten 175 runs off 228 deliveries in the first innings of the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka on March 5, 2022.

The southpaw had taken the Sri Lankan bowlers to the cleaners with 17 fours and three sixes and helped the hosts in posting massive first innings total despite losing their top-order batters on Day one.

With just 25 runs needed for the Gujarat cricketer’s maiden double century and eight wickets down with promising tail-ender Mohammed Shami batting on 20, the middle-order sensation was looking to play some brisk shorts to increase the team total. Nonetheless, captain Rohit Sharma decided to declare the innings after having batted for one-and-a-half days with the hope of wrapping up the Sri Lankan innings quickly.
