This was the first edition of the Champions League after the 2008 tournament was cancelled. Cape Cobras from South Africa was relatively a star-studded team consisting of Herschelle Gibbs, JP Duminy, Vernon Philander, Justin Ontong and, Charlie Langeveldt.

On the other hand, Trinidad & Tobago from the Caribbean had very lesser players of international prominence, however, their each player stepped up in every match in their campaign. In Daren Ganga, they had one of the most inspirational and an astute leader.

Batting first, Cape Cobras put on a competitive score of 175, spearheaded by JP Duminy’s 61 and Gibbs’ 42. Dwayne Bravo had been taken absolutely to the cleaners by both Duminy and Gibbs. His economy rate had been just above 15 in three overs.

When William Perkins and Adrian Barath came out to bat, they meant “just business”. They made a statement and raced to less than fifty in five overs. But in a space of five overs, they had lost Lendl Simmons and both their openers.

Dwayne Bravo joined his skipper Daren Ganga to never allow Cape Cobras the comeback they were looking for. They both stitched a partnership of 93 of which Bravo contributed 54 of them. Needing 3 off the last over, he smacked one to the mid-wicket off the second ball and T&T had progressed into the final of the tournament.

Although Cape Cobras missed a lot of catches, run-out chances, as well as fumbles, it was Bravo’s tale of how he got up and bounced back incredibly in spite of being hit for plenty of runs in the first innings.
