The T20 format has been successful in revolutionizing Indian cricket. Earlier on, the fans were not able to follow the rising stars at the domestic level. However, things have changed a lot since IPL has taken over Indian domestic cricket. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and the Pandya brothers have left a mark on the circuit. This makes this tournament extra special. Adding on, IPL also enables the forgotten ones to make a comeback as well.

However, T20 cricket is not always about fancy stories. Sometimes, it becomes a nightmare for the batters and the bowlers. In the case of batters, the best thing to do is to retire-out, if there are more impactful hitters to follow. However, there are few cases when the Indian batters struggled and the option of retiring out seemed a sensible one. Let us have a look at the top 5 instances when retiring out was a better option for the batters:

5. Shikhar Dhawan (41 runs from 42 balls vs Bangladesh, 2019)

Shikhar Dhawan is one of the finest openers India has seen since 2013. He can score freely and has been an integral part of India’s white-ball teams. The southpaw is known to produce his best on the big stages like the World Cup or the Champions Trophy. However, sometimes, his cautious approach does affect his team.

One such occasion was during a T20I game against Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The stylish left-handed batsman played a slow knock of 41 from 42 balls. As a result of which, India managed to put up only 148 in 20 overs. Bangladesh chased down the total convincingly with seven wickets to spare.

As batters were waiting for their turn, this knock of Dhawan was an example of stat-padding. It would have been a better outing for the team if he would have got retire-out and allowed other batters to score the quick runs.
