The RCB faced Rising Pune Supergiant in their 10th game of the 2017 season. By that time, the Bangalore franchise had only five points under their belt with only two wins. The RCB elected to bowl first on a tricky pitch in Pune during the game played in the afternoon. Some tight bowling by the visiting side saw RPS limited to 157 in their 20 overs despite losing only three wickets.

Virat Kohli opened the batting with Travis Head but found no support from any batter. He was dismissed in the 18th over at the score of 84/9 having scored 55 runs from 48 balls with 4 fours and a maximum. RCB played out 20 overs scoring just 96 runs for the loss of 9 wickets and lost the game by 61 runs. S Aravind (8* off 6) and Kedar Jadhav (7 off 12) were the only players to hit a boundary other than Kohli during the innings.

They were also 2nd and 3rd top-scores for the RCB respectively which meant no batsman barring Virat managed to reach double digits. Thus, it became the first individual fifty in a completed IPL inning where no other batsman got to the double digits. The highest partnership for RCB in this match was only 21 runs between Kohli and ABD for the 2nd wicket. Virat alone scored 17 runs during the partnership that lasted 16 balls.
