Four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have begun their IPL 2022 campaign on a horrifying note as they have lost their first four games of the season. This is the first time in IPL history that CSK has lost its first four games. With four losses, the team is placed at the bottom of the IPL points table with an NRR of -1.211.

Ahead of the season, MS Dhoni handed over the reins to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to groom him for a future leadership role. However, Jadeja has looked mediocre as a captain, and often his decision-making skills on the field have not been effective so far.

During the 2022 mega auction, the defending champions have managed to acquire almost every player from the previous season but have missed a few who played an important role in winning CSK’s fourth title. In this article, we will talk about five players from last season whom CSK is missing in IPL 2022.

The 37-year-old Du Plessis had an outstanding IPL season in 2021, where he emerged as the second-highest run-scorer with 633 runs in 16 innings. Faf du Plessis stitched up some solid partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad in almost every game at the top of the order. His consistency in the top order played a crucial role in CSK’s winning the coveted title for the 4th time in IPL history.

The calm and composed batsman has been a consistent performer for them over the years. He played his last innings in the yellow jersey at the finals of the 2021 edition, where he won the “Player of the Match” for his knock of 86 off 59 balls. However, CSK failed to reacquire Du Plessis’ service for IPL 2022, which has haunted them so far in the ongoing season.

Compared to last season, in the first four games of the season, CSK has struggled to find a good opening partnership. The former South African captain was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he has been appointed as captain.
