Entertainment is the synonym of IPL as fans love to see humongous sixes hit every season. One of the most important components that make a T20 match so interesting is the sixes hit by the batting team. Quality big-hitters particularly are the reason why T20 pulls massive crowds to the stadiums.

One aspect that every team needs in their squad is a quality big-hitter for winning matches while thrilling the fans. These six-hitting specialists bring in excitement and flavor to the game. Right from Chris Gayle to Brendon McCullum, there have been many players who have hit sixes for fun in the previous editions of the toughest league in the world.

The IPL has introduced the Maximum Sixes Award for the player hitting the most number of sixes in an IPL season. But who could hit the most number of sixes in this edition? Who are the players to stand a chance of winning the Maximum Sixes Award in IPL 2020? Today we take a look at 5 players who can hit the most number of sixes in IPL 2020.

1. Andre Russell

The MVP of IPL 2019 would be included in any list where the discussion is about hitting sixes. The KKR all-rounder has a habit of hitting sixes regularly in the death overs. Russell was the hero for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last season as he not only won the Most Valuable Player award but also won the Maximum Sixes Award (52 sixes) last season.

He smashed 120 sixes in the 54 IPL matches he has played. Overall, he has hit 436 sixes in 323 T20 matches. He is an asset for any T20 team and has the knack of clearing the boundary at will. No boundary is long enough to stop “Russell Muscle” from hitting his sixes, especially in IPL.

Those who have followed his game over the last few years would know how good he is when it comes to hitting sixes. Don’t be surprised if Andre Russel hits the most number of sixes in this edition as well.

2. Glenn Maxwell

How could anyone forget Maxwell’s heroics the last time the IPL was played in UAE? The Aussie all-rounder is nicknamed “Big Show” for a reason. Glenn Maxwell is all set to represent his former IPL franchise(KXIP) this time around. The 31-Year old would love to pay back the faith invested by his franchise by hitting the most number of sixes this season.

Maxwell has hit 81 sixes in his T20I career and has been one of the best T20 players of this generation. It is safe to call him one of the best finishers of T20I cricket in the modern era. However, he has unfortunately not been able to replicate his T20I success into the IPL on a consistent basis. Barring one good season in 2014, he has never been consistent over the previous IPL editions.

Despite that, he has hit 91 sixes in his IPL career at a strike rate of 161.3. This season is a golden opportunity for him to prove his critics wrong as the IPL this time is going to be played in UAE, A place where he has tasted success in the past. KXIP fans would love to see their beloved Maxwell hit the most number of sixes in IPL 2020 and win the Maximum Sixes Award this season. He has the capability to do it as well.

3. David Warner

Australian opener David Warner has been one of the best IPL batsmen for quite a while now. In a league where the best of best struggle, he has been scoring runs for fun and winning matches for his franchise all by himself. During his long IPL career, Warner has scored 4706 runs with an impressive strike rate of 142.39.

Warner had scored 692 runs in just 12 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad last season. He was also the highest run-getter in last year’s tournament. In his IPL career, Warner has hit 180 sixes and 458 boundaries. He also hit 21 sixes on his way to the orange cap last season. Given his recent form, he could very well hit the most sixes in IPL 2020.

Warner has an added advantage as well. Unlike his competitors who bat in the middle order, he bats as an opener. By virtue of being an opener, he gets more deliveries to face and hence has a really good chance of winning the Maximum Sixes Award in IPL 2020. SRH would be mighty pleased if he manages to do so.

4. AB de Villiers

AB can do anything as that’s a fact. ABD also happens to be one of the few batsmen who can hit sixes on any side of the ground, There’s a reason why he’s called ‘Mr.360’. Over the years, ABD has made it a habit to hit sixes for RCB and light up the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

He won’t be playing in Chinnaswamy Stadium this season but will still be able to smash sixes outside the stadiums in UAE, that’s the confidence he gives to all his viewers and fans. He has hit 212 sixes in his IPL career and 60 sixes in his T20I career. He has also scored the 2nd most number of sixes in the history of the league.

ABD has been synonymous with RCB. The Bangalore franchise’s fans would be hoping for him to hit the most number of sixes in IPL 2020. If he can reverse sweep Malinga’s Yorker for six, then only god knows how many sixes he is capable of hitting. The good news for his fans is that the more sixes he hits, the more entertained the fans get.

5. MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni has been one of India’s biggest hitters in the history of the league. The CSK captain would love to hit more sixes for his franchise this season. Now that he has announced his retirement from international cricket, he would like to go on the field, prove his critics wrong, and hit a lot of ‘Helicopter Shots’ to show that he still has it in him. As mentioned by many CSK players, he has looked good in the nets and is hungry for some more runs.

Dhoni has single-handedly changed the fate of his franchise’s matches with his big-hitting abilities. The 39-year-old batsman has scored 4,432 runs in the 190 IPL matches he has taken part in. The former Indian skipper has registered 23 fifties in the tournament. Besides, he holds the Indian record for slamming the most sixes in the IPL.

No other Indian batsman has hit over 200 sixes in the league while Dhoni is leading the charts with 209 sixes. He was at his destructive best in 2018 where the veteran had banged 30 maximums. It would be interesting to see if he can break his own record this time around. Like AB de, MSD has proved that age is just a number and has a good chance to win the Maximum Sixes Award this time around.
