The auction for the 10th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gave the players and fans a surprise and shock after several top international players like Imran Tahir, Brad Hogg and Alex Hales failed to earn the attention of any franchise in spite of their proven credentials. Ben Stokes and Tymal Mills will be grinning their way down to the bank after earning multi-million contracts. However, it needs to be seen how efficiently and effectively they fit in. Investing in a couple of experienced proven match-winners might have been the correct choice in comparison. Fans and experts were left shell-shocked after Sean Abbott who snapped 20 wickets in 10 BBL games failed to fetch a single bid. Let’s take a look at the 5 unsold players who could have been the perfect addition if invested in: 1. Irfan Pathan- KXIP (Photo Source: BCCI) The 32-year-old all-rounder has delivered impressive performances in the domestic tournaments this season which sparked speculation of a big-money bid for his services. His ability to swing the ball and earn early inroads makes him the perfect go-to option for any captain looking for breakthroughs. Pathan is no mug with the bat and is more than capable of smashing it big. KXIP were in desperate need of reliable Indian performers and Irfan could have been the perfect acquisition. Sadly they failed to snap him up which might come back to haunt them. 2. Brad Hogg – Mumbai Indians Kolkata: Brad Hogg of Kolkata Knight Riders. The 46-year-old is more than capable of deceiving the batsmen with his variations and is as fit as a fiddle even at this age. His economy rate in the shortest format of the game is also quite admirable as well. The Mumbai Indians could have shrewdly earned his services at the base price which would have served them pretty well considering his wealth of experience and high reliability. 3. Tahir has delivered impressive performances for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL over the years and is efficiently capable of swinging the game in his side’s favour. The Sun Risers Hyderabad opted to splurge out on Rashid Khan during the auction. They could have been better served if they had opted to invest in Tahir who was available at a lower price and also has the experience of bowling on Indian pitches. Tahir’s addition could have ensured the perfect blend of talent and experience. 4. Pragyan Ojha – KXIP (Photo Source: Getty Images) Pragyan Ojha earned a lot of appreciation and acclaim after his awe-inspiring performances for the Deccan Chargers in the second season of the Indian Premier League. Ojha enjoys the ability to flight the ball and generate movement even in the toughest of conditions. His crafty variations as a left-arm spinner and mature bowling abilities have ensured match-winning performances over the years. The Punjab franchise is solely dependent on Akshar Patel in the spin department and should have opted to acquire Ojha at his base price rather than invest in surplus pace bowlers. 5. Sean Abbott – Kolkata Knight Riders Sean Abbott. Abbott can smash the ball into the stands and is extremely accurate. The Kolkata Knight Riders signed Chris Woakes and Nathan Coulter-Nile for 4.2 crore and 3.5 crore respectively which defies logic considering Abbott’s base price and ability. He could have been the perfect addition at a low price considering the kid’s flair and expertise.
