If the loss in the first Test at Pallekele was a demoralizing one for the top-ranked Australia, the second Test exposed the shambolic state of affairs as far as the Australians playing spin was concerned. The issues of the Aussies playing spin was well documented in the second Test at Galle when they were simply decimated by Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera. They lost 13 wickets on the day where 23 wickets fell.

The Aussies however, were at the receiving end of criticism following their horrific performances in the Test from former Indian opening batsman Aakash Chopra. In a tweet, Chopra wrote: “Just realized how much I overrated World’s Number 1 team”.

Aakash Chopra is a veteran of the subcontinent conditions and made a massive impact in the 2002 series as an opening partner to Virender Sehwag.

The Aussies landed themselves in yet another soup when the stump microphone picked up a few Aussie players saying , ‘F*** you guys are lucky’.

The comment actually suggested that the Australians were not ready to accept they played badly, and instead meant that their batting mistake was a part of the luck for the Lankans.

Earlier, Australia, who resumed on their overnight score of 54 for two, struggled throughout the morning against both Rangana Herath and his fellow spin bowler Dilruwan Perera who shared eight wickets between them.

The Sri Lankans at the moment, face the prospect of winning a rare series against the number one ranked side. Moreover, the way the home side is playing at the moment, it seems as though a whitewash, however, unlikely is on the cards.
