After watching Pakistan team’s performance in the ongoing World T20 2016, it seems that it won’t be just captain Shahid Afridi who will lose his job, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is also looking for a new coach, to replace Waqar Younis.
The top runner is former Pakistani pacer and 1992 World Cup winner Aaqib Javed. 43 year old Javed is currently the coach of United Arab Emirates who featured in the Asia Cup T20 2016 recently.
Pakistan have lost 2 matches out of their 3 in the current World T20, losing to India and New Zealand, while defeating Bangladesh in their first match of the tournament. They are now on the verge of elimination and PCB have already given hints that they will drop Shahid Afridi as the captain of the team and by the looks of it now, they are looking to put new life into the team with a new management altogether.
Aaqib Javed has been impressive in his coaching stint with the UAE team, which played in the main rounds of the World T20 2014 in Bangladesh and the ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand last year. This is why he is top of the list for potential Pakistani coach by PCB.
Waqar Younis has had problems with the captain and recently he remarked about the behavior of Umar Akmal, who complained to Imran Khan about his batting order. He had to the media that, “You must be able to adjust in T20, you have got to be adaptable. For those who were upset at not getting to bat in the positions they hoped for, this was a perfect opportunity. We were just not good enough. You can cry all you want, you can talk all you want, but we are just not good enough. People will have to take a hard look at themselves.”
Aaqib Javed was once one of the best fast bowlers for Pakistan and often formed a formidable partnership with Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis in cricket.
