Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) and India’s Indian Premier League (IPL) are two of the biggest T20 franchise cricket leagues of the world, and both attract a lot of crowd and TRP. Australia’s Aaron Finch, who has played for both the leagues, has pointed out the similarities and dissimilarities between both the leagues.
As for the similarities, Finch feels that both the leagues enjoy equal popularity and there is an equal amount of pressure on the cricketers. But the conditions vary – bouncy pitches there and spin-friendly wickets here, and the IPL involves more traveling than its Australian counterpart.
“The conditions, more games and more travel in the IPL set the two T20 leagues apart. Obviously, there are more international players available and playing in the IPL, the standard is higher and it’s the ultimate test for a T20 player,” Finch, who plays for Melbourne Renegades in the BBL, told Sportstar.
“Also with the fixturing in Australia, the international fixture overlaps, so we lose some of the Australian players for sections of the BBL,” he added.
Finch has played for six IPL teams
Finch was signed by Kings XI Punjab for Rs. 6.2 Crore at this year’s IPL auction. He has been previously associated with the Gujarat Lions, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Pune Warriors, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He further went on to say that with so many Australian players a part of the IPL, the country has become a second home for them. Among other noted Aussie players in this year’s IPL are Steve Smith, David Warner, Chris Lynn and Mitchell Johnson.
“Given the amount of time we spend in India and the friendships you develop with your team-mates. India is like a second home in many ways and I love coming back. “I’ve been fortunate enough to play for a few of the IPL franchises and as such have lived in various cities so I feel comfortable here and have friends across the country.”
