After being dropped from the ODI side following a bevy of terrible performances, Aaron Finch has been reinforced back into the grand scheme of things for Australia, this time as T20I skipper for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. However, speaking about his appointment in the grand scheme of things, Finch went on to add that the experience in T20I cricket is there for one and all, but the fact remains that there is only a handful of players at the moment.

“There’s not many bigger names in world cricket than that handful, especially in T20 cricket, there’s so much experience there,” Finch said upon his appointment.

“When you look at the guys who have performed well (for Australia recently) – the younger guys in particular – a lot of it has been through the opportunity of other people being injured, and they’ve come in and done exceptionally well.

Finch then went on to add that he had indeed worked with some of the best coaching names in T20 cricket in the recent past. Perth Scorchers coach Justin Langer is perhaps one of the most prominent of those names given the fact that he recently led the Perth-based side to a win in the BBL 2016/17. Moreover, he also went on to add that Ricky Ponting and Jason Gillespie are a few others whom he has worked with as well.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with all three of them in the past: ‘JL’ (Langer) during the West Indies tour (last year) and at the very start of my career when he was still Australia’s batting coach; Ricky at the Mumbai Indians, albeit briefly before a snapped hammy sent me home; and a couple of years at Yorkshire with Jason Gillespie,” Finch said.
