South African skipper AB de Villiers has a plethora of One Day international records to his name. However, in recent times, de Villiers has also had a new record added to his name after having become the beneficiary of becoming the fastest batsman to 9000 ODI runs. He reached this milestone in 205th ODI innings, something that only former India skipper Sourav Ganguly had done before him.

De Villiers is perhaps one of the best ODI batsmen in the world given the manner in which he comes up with a lot of innovative shots in the world. He is also the beneficiary of the fastest ODI ton, something that he achieved a few years back against the West Indies at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. This is also something that makes him one of the best in the world.

However, in the third ODI against New Zealand, something that was his 205th innings wherein he smashed an impressive 85, batting for almost a third of the innings from the 50 overs played against some quality New Zealand pace bowling. This was also something that saw his side inch ever so close to another series win on the bounce, something that the Proteas have been doing for the better part of their cricketing season.

It is also somewhat of an emotional time for AB de Villiers who has been quite impressive in recent times and has also made a comeback from injury. He had also failed a few fitness Tests in recent times, something that kept him out of the side for the most part of the year.
