Ex Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq has come out in support of tainted players Salman Butt and Mohammed Asif. The former all-rounder believes that they both deserve a chance to compete in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) since they’ve already made a comeback in domestic cricket and have been doing well consistently.

The topic has yielded different opinions from different quarters while a few have supported their return to even the national team there is a bigger segment in Pakistan cricket and outside who stand firmly against it. Though the two have served their sentence similar to Mohammad Amir, their comeback hasn’t been favoured.

“I believe Asif and Salman should be given a chance in PSL to see how they perform,” said Razzaq. “I had some hopes of playing in the PSL but unfortunately I did not get a good response to that,” he said.

PSL is better than IPL

The 38-year-old also opined that PSL was a better tournament than the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL). He further expressed disappointment over being ignored for the PSL. He admitted that he had prospects of participating in the upcoming PSL season 3. However, despite featuring in the draft, the franchisees didn’t show much interest in picking him.

“If I am able to perform and prove my fitness, then I am hopeful of participating in the next PSL as a player,” he had said.

Having represented Pakistan in 343 international games, Razzaq scored around 8000 runs and picked close to 400 wickets. He was a part of the Pakistan team that reached the finals of the 1999 World Cup.

The former all-rounder made a bold statement backing the PSL. He remarked that it had better standards of cricket than the IPL.

“PSL is a good standard and probably better than IPL but when you have played International cricket against top players, then PSL is a little easy for us to play,” he said.

The third edition of Pakistan’s domestic T20 league is slated to commence on the 22nd of February. Defending champions Peshawar Zalmi are all set to lock horns with the new addition Multan Sultans.
