24-year old Bangladesh pacer Abu Jayed has been added to the Bangladeshi squad for the upcoming tour of the Caribbean. Having been added to the Test squad for the first time in his international career, Jayd has featured for the Tigers so far i just three T20 internationals, most of which were played in the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka prior to the start of the Indian Premier League.

While Jayed has indeed shown tremendous promise with the ball, he will be roped in as a cover for the currently injured fast bowlers. Reports on the surface suggest that Mustafizur Rahman, the premier pacer for Courtney Walsh-coached side has not yet fully recovered from the injury he had sustained. With ‘The Fizz’ being as injury-prone as he has been in recent times, it would seem to be good on the selectors’ part to include Jayed in the side.

At the moment, the Windies are battling it out in the Test match scenario against Sri Lanka and are currently leading the three-match series 1-0 after drawing the controversy-marred second Test. The Bangladeshis will make the trip to the Caribbean the following month.

Shafiul Islam added to the side due to experience

Pacer Shafiul Islam has also been added to the side in the place of Yeasin Arafat, especially after the chief selector Minhajul Abedin stated that it would not be wise to have two debutants in the squad in addition to Abu Jayed.

“We have decided to change Yeasin Arafat with Shafiul [Islam] in the last minute as we felt that we need some experience,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz. “We decided this as there was another debutant pace bowler in Abu Jayed so we did not want to take any chance.”
