Mahendra Singh Dhoni, on Sunday, added another feather in his cap of becoming the first wicketkeeper ever to affect 100 stumpings. He went past Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara who has 99 stumpings against his name. One of the best wicketkeepers of all time Australia’s  Adam Gilchrist took the moment to appreciate Dhoni for achieving the milestone.

The Indian keeper achieved the rare landmark in the 45th over of the Sri Lankan innings in the fifth and final ODI of the series. Yuzvendra Chahal nicely flighted the top spinner which induced Akila Dananjaya into coming out of the crease to meet the ball and it zipped past his inside edge. Dhoni clipped the bails with a smile on his face as it was an extremely easy stumping, his 100th in ODIs. All the members of the team congratulated him for the record.

Adam Gilchrist’s message

It is a known fact that Gilchrist is MS Dhoni’s wicketkeeping idol. Gilly himself has been the fan of the former Indian captain’s batting and keeping. The Aussie had previously said that Dhoni is not the second Gilchrist but the first MS Dhoni. It was a huge praise for the Indian stalwart.

Gilly could not stop himself from wishing the master behind the stumps and took to Twitter to send across his message. His tweet read, “Congrats @msdhoni #Brilliant Think @Iheals and I can thank @ShaneWarne for being only non-subcontinent keepers on the list.”

Interestingly, the Australian himself is fifth on the list of most stumpings with 55 in his illustrious career. He along with Ian Healy are the only wicketkeepers apart from the sub-continental players in the list of top ten wicketkeepers with most stumpings.

It would be interesting to see if the former ‘captain cool’ MS Dhoni thanks his idol for wishing him. MSD was also in great form with the bat and he wasn’t dismissed at all in the series in the 4 innings he played.
