Australia have stunned the cricket world by lifting the T20 World Cup 2021. It was indeed an emphatic win for the Aussies as many didn’t back them to go a long way before the start of the tournament. However, the Aaron Finch-led side defied all the odds and got the glory. The Men in Yellow defeated their Trans-Tasman rivals by eight wickets in the final clash to seal the deal.

Aussie players couldn’t keep calm after the triumph and the same was evident in their lively celebrations. Several players also took to social media and expressed their ecstasy. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa also did the same but in a cheeky manner. Posting a picture from the dressing room celebrations, the leggie took a dig at former England captain Michael Vaughan.

For the unversed, Vaughan had written off the Aussies as favourites ahead of the tournament and Zampa was aware of the same. Hence, he posted Vaughan’s pre-tournament statement alongside the picture. “I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In t20 cricket they have struggled. I don’t see Australia doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, Maybe Pakistan?” read the caption.

Speaking of Vaughan’s prediction, the former opener had said that Australia won’t go a long way in the competition as barring Glenn Maxwell, they don’t have many in-form players in the ranks. “I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In T20 cricket they’ve struggled. Glenn Maxwell’s exceptional so he will have to have an incredible tournament,” Vaughan had told BBC.

“But I don’t see the Aussies doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, one of those four and maybe Pakistan because of the conditions,” he had added. Meanwhile, Zampa was instrumental in taking Australia to glory as he bowled magnificently throughout the competition.

While he took wickets regularly, he didn’t concede a lot of runs. In fact, his tally of 13 wickets is the second-highest in the competition. Notably, Aussie skipper Aaron Finch also said that the ‘Player of the Tournament’ should have been Adam Zampa instead of David Warner. Meanwhile, Australia and Zampa can’t chill for too long as the next T20 World Cup is less than a year away and the Aussies will have the onus to defend their title.
