Aussie leg-spinner Adam Zampa and hard-hitting all-rounder Mitchell Marsh have been fined for breaching ICC’s code of conduct during their respective BBL games yesterday. While Zampa was penalised $2000 by Cricket Australia for breaking his bat in disgust after getting run out, Marsh was fined $2500 for questioning an on-field umpire’s decision.

Zampa who completed 2016 as the highest wicket-taker in ODIs broke his bat during the Melbourne derby clash yesterday after being run out during their unsuccessful run chase against the Melbourne Renegades. It was during the 17th over of the innings. Stoinis tucked a delivery towards the leg side and they looked set for two runs but as Zampa was about to take the 2nd runs his feet got stuck and he fell in between the pitch. The wicketkeeper completed an easy runout and while walking off Zampa slammed the bat into the turf only to see the handle in his hand.

According to reports of the Match referee CA has penalised the player for his outrage after his dismissal. The statement read, “Zampa was reported for breaching CA’s Code of Conduct Article 2.1.2 – Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match – a level 1 offense.” The statement was brought out by cricket.com.au.

Perth Scorchers swashbuckling all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was fined for questioning the leg umpire of a possible waist height no-ball which was not given. Cricket Australia added in the statement, “Marsh was reported for breaching CA’s Code of Conduct Article 2.1.3 – Showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during a match – a level 1 offence.

“As per the CA Code of Conduct procedure, the Match Referee, Daryl Harper, considered the umpires’ written report, and offered a proposed sanction of a $2,500.”

Marsh decided to challenge the charge and the match referee conducted a hearing there itself but after discussions, it was decided the original penalty will be upheld.

“After considering all parties reasoning, the match referee upheld the original decision of guilty and the sanction of a $2,500 fine.”
