England leg-spinner, Adil Rashid expressed his gratitude to the Australian greats Jason Gillespie and Shane Warne for the kind of support and also for backing him.

Gillespie is Rashid’s coach at English county champions Yorkshire, who backed his abilities and Warne had a lengthy practice session with him ahead of the third Test against Pakistan earlier in November and spoke to him again before the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka.

The leggie has featured in England’s last 22 ODI matches after he made his comeback after 6 long years. He is in good form in the ongoing series and his 2 wickets in the second ODI were crucial in their 10-wicket win over the visitors.

Gillespie believes that he could well replace Moeen Ali in the longer format of the game. “It can be good (having someone like that rate you), but you can get a lot of people rating you. It is up to the individual to not let that get to his head and keep concentrating on what is in front of him,” he said.

“Jason is a high-quality coach, who has played for Australia — so he has got a lot of experience, the way he talks to me helps, so it is good to have him there as well,” added the 28-year old.

He also said that he had got some great tips from the Australian leg-spin legend, Shane Warne. “It was just before the (first ODI) at Notts – I had a general chat with him about leg-spin. He gives his tips … which are helpful.”

“I am getting better mentally, and with my skills, but you can always have a bad day or a bad game or series – so it is being strong in the mind.”

When asked about his Test hopes, he said, “They are quite strong, but I think that is quite a long way away. At the moment I am just trying to concentrate on the ODIs and the Twenty20s that are in front of me — and hope that will take care of itself further down the line. “I don’t think of replacing Mo or anything like that,” he concluded.
