Afghanistan cricketer’s dedicates series win to earthquake victims: Afghanistan grabbed a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in their two-match Twenty20 series on Wednesday and dedicated their win to victims of this week’s earthquake which rocked their country and neighbouring Pakistan.
Four days after becoming the first non-Test side to beat a Test-playing nation in a one-day 50-over series. They also won the Twenty20 series 2-0.
Mohammad Nabi, the team’s leading all-rounder tweeted in reference to Monday’s 7.5 magnitude quake which left almost 400 people dead and thousands homeless.
Opener Usman Ghani smashed a 45-ball 65 with man-of-the-match Gulbudeen Naib hitting an unbeaten 56 off just 31 balls with seven boundaries.
Afghanistan chased down their daunting 191-run target with one ball to spare. Sean Williams top-scored for Zimbabwe with a 26-ball 54.
Afghanistan reported 115 dead while three people died on the Indian side of the disputed region of Kashmir, the Associated Press reported.
Several aftershocks followed Monday’s quake, which was centered in a remote area in Afghanistan that borders Pakistan, Tajikistan and China.
More than 10,000 homes were damaged in north-west Pakistan while Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s office said that more than 7,600 homes were destroyed and 558 people injured in that country.
