The IPL has a knack of unearthing new talents on the world stage every year, be it Saurabh Tiwary, David Warner, Jasprit Bumrah, Mustafizur Rahman and so on and so forth. However, the emerging talent this year has to be Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who was the purple cap holder a couple of days back.

Moreover, the Wankhede crowd were not amused by the Afghan’s antics on the field. Chasing Sunrisers’ total of 159, Mumbai lost three wickets in succession, but Nitish Rana and Krunal Pandya steadied the Mumbai Indians ship with a vital partnership which eventually took them past the Sunrisers’ total.

Rashid had another good outing with the ball as he gave away only 13 runs in 3.4 overs and took the priced wicket of Rohit Sharma. But the penultimate ball of his spell slipped out of the hand because of the wetness of the ball due to dew in the field. As a result, Krunal Pandya deposited a rank full toss out of his sight for a maximum. Not only did that infuriate the 18-year old, it dented the Sunrisers’ hopes for getting a backdoor entry into the game.

In the final ball of his spell, Krunal Pandya tucked a straight ball to the bowler. An angry Rashid threw the ball at the batsman who ducked just in the nick of time, whilst getting an overthrow due to some sloppy backup fielding from Mustafizur.

The crowd full of ardent fans of Mumbai Indians in the Wankhede let Rashid know about his mistake as they booed the Afghan for his antics. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar tried his level best to cause another hiccup by taking the wicket of Krunal Pandya but Harbhajan Singh and Hardik Pandya ensured that Mumbai Indians cruised past the Sunrisers’ total. The Afghan also had to hand over the Purple Cap to his team-mate Bhuvaneshwar Kumar who leads by taking 7 wickets in the tournament.
