Over the years, the Australians have mastered the skill of sledging opponents to push them to a point of frustration and distraction. Many a time, the act of sledging turned hot and ugly, leading to controversies. But the current Australia-India Test series is seeing more of the funnier side as both sides are sparing no effort to make jibes at each other though it never saw heads turn hotter on the ground.

On Thursday, as India continued with their marathon innings at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the hosts were back with their banter. Australian captain Tim Paine was the ‘culprit’ this time as he was seen continuously teasing Rohit Sharma as the latter looked determined to play a solid inning and scored a half-century.

Paine used the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a bait to distract Rohit, who is the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the T20 tournament back home, saying if the batsman hit a six, he would change to Mumbai. Paine himself had once featured for Pune Warriors in the IPL.

‘Saintly’ Rohit doesn’t get affected by surroundings

Though Rohit did not care to respond to Paine’s jibes, his franchise back home decided to come up with a funny response on Twitter. In reply to the tweet showing the video of Paine’s talks behind the wicket which was posted by cricket.com.au, the MI posted an emoji of Rohit doing meditation in the position of a saint with a halo at the back of his head, resembling a godly figure who is least touched by the surroundings.

India were meanwhile piling on the runs at the MCG, after resuming from their overnight score of 215 for 2. Cheteshwar Pujara, who was not out on 68 on Day 1, completed his second hundred of the series after the Adelaide match-winner while captain Virat Kohli, the other overnight batsman, got out on 82. Ajinkya Rahane fell for 34 and currently, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is accompanying Rohit for the sixth wicket as India went past 400.
