Ahead of 100th Test, Virat Kohli thanks wife Anushka Sharma

Former India captain Virat Kohli is the cynosure of all eyes at the moment as he is on the verge of playing his 100th Test match. The 33-year-old ace batter will be only the 12th Indian cricketer to achieve the milestone when he takes the field at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on Friday, March 4, against Sri Lanka.

Kohli spoke to bcci.tv on the eve of the special match and touched on various topics related to his glorious cricketing career and things on and off the field. The cricketer spoke about his family and coach and particularly thanked his actress-producer wife Anushka Sharma for her strong support during his decade-long international career.

“Anushka (Sharma) has been a huge, huge influence in my life. Not just you know, eventually the influence in your life that filters down to your game as well because your game is part of life. I have become a completely changed man for all the right reasons. I have evolved in the right way. I am very, very grateful and thankful to God to have a life partner like her and she’s been an absolute pillar of strength for me. I know people say this thing a lot but I truly understood the meaning of that when I started evolving when Anushka came into my life. And vice versa. We have both helped each other grow. I wouldn’t have been able to go on with so much composure and so much passion and zeal if it wasn’t for her in my life,” he said.

The power couple got married in Italy in December 2017 and they, fondly called by the fans as ‘Virushka’, are known for their public display of mutual affection and respect. They have a one-year-old daughter named Vamika. Sharma’s first film ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ was released in 2008, the same year that Kohli made his international debut.

Like the rest of the world congratulating her husband over the special occasion, Sharma also made a loving gesture to Kohli by reacting to a picture posted by him on Instagram showing him practising at the nets ahead of the Test match. Sharma, who is currently in the middle of making a comeback with a biopic on woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami by the name of ‘Chakda ‘Xpress’, reacted to Kohli’s post with three red hearts.

Sharma has found herself at the receiving end at times when Kohli failed on the ground but the duo has fought all criticism together.
