Pakistan opener Ahmed Shahzad will be consulting a British psychologist Dr Taimoor to regain his form and earn his spot back the opener of the national team. Shehzad surfaced as a promising batsman and one of the most talented batsmen the country produced but hasn’t been able to perform consistently in the last few years. Moreover, he has struggled to get going in the international matches he was included in the team of late.

He was recently called back for the World XI series in Lahore and performed relatively well, but disappointed again in the series against Sri Lanka. He was replaced by left-handed batsman Imam-ul-Haq during the ODI series and he may well be outside the door if the latter continues to pile up good performances.

Skull fracture

Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur wasn’t able to fathom Shehzad’s dip in form and therefore suggested him to see a psychologist, to better understand the problem he is facing. According to reports, the 25-year-old is going to consult the psychologist after the ongoing National T20 Cup ends.

The Tribune stated that, it is a widely held opinion that Shehzad’s dip in form came after he was struck by a Corey Anderson bouncer three years ago during a Test match in Abu Dhabi. He had incurred a skull fracture after the incident.

When he was hit by the ball, Shehzad’s bat fell on the stumps which led to a hit-wicket dismissal as he fell on the ground. The right-hander left the ground with a lot of pain that brought him tears as the crowd gave him a standing ovation for his magnificent 176-run innings. Shehzad was later rushed to a hospital where scans showed he had a minor skull fracture.

Whether this has any connection with his below average numbers in recent times or if it is just a simple case of lack orf form and focus is open to interpretation.
