Aiden Markram, during the India series last year, was named the captain of South Africa’s ODI side. He was tipped to be the next big thing in the country but lost his touch in the last few months only to lose his place from the side in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Though Markram is lighting up the domestic cricket at the moment in the One-Day Cup and believes in performing in order to make a comeback to where he belongs.

The talented right-handed batsman was recently involved in a record-breaking partnership of 272 runs with Farhaan Behardien. He has also scored two centuries in as many games scoring 169 off 129 balls against Cape Cobras and then smashing 139 off 127 deliveries against the Warriors while featuring for the Titans last week.

We can’t control selections

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo after piling on the runs, Aiden Markram cleared that his focus at the moment is winning the games for his team in the ongoing tournament. He also felt that the selection process is not in his hands and all he can do is keep scoring runs in abundance in the domestic circuit.

“As players, we can’t control selections. All we can control is the weight of big runs, and putting runs on the board. I’m trying to invest all my time and energy into the Titans team, and whatever happens from there, we just take it in our stride day by day,” he said.

Against the Warriors, Markram came out to bat when the team was struggling at 31/5 and then batted superbly to propel the team to 320/6. Talking about the same, he said, “It was an interesting day. An innings of two halves, especially in the first innings. They bowled really well up front, and made it tough for us to score as well as striking. It was really tough up front, but nice to reap the rewards at the back,” the 24-year-old further added.
