The Sunrisers Hyderabad availed the services of Protea batter Aiden Markram for a price of INR 2.60 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction. This acquisition has certainly paid dividends for the team, as he has already scored 263 runs in the ongoing season at a staggering average of 87.66, and a strike rate of 149.43. His top score of 68* came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In the last game against Gujarat Titans (GT), he contributed 56, which helped the team post a total of 195 on the board.

In the latest interaction, the former cricketers Wasim Jaffer and Deep Dasgupta gave their opinion on the form of Markram in the ongoing season. Dasgupta believes the performance of Protea batter has been excellent in white-ball cricket for the last eight months. He reckoned that the performances in the IPL have just been an extension of his purple patch. Dasgupta further hailed Markram’s orthodox approach and thinks it will keep him consistent in the second half of the season as well.

“If you look at Markram’s performance in ODI and T20s, he has been brilliant. This season has just been an extension of what he is doing. He has improved so much against spin and is very orthodox in his approach. Due to his orthodox approach, he will still be consistent with the pitch slowing down as well. Your consistency will be higher when you play orthodox cricket, that’s what is benefitting Sunrisers Hyderabad,” said Dasgupta on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

Jaffer thinks Markram has made the number four position his own and has been excellent. He then felt that along with Markram, the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Abhishek Sharma, and Rahul Tripathi have been doing a fine job as well, and helping the team to secure victories.

“He has made the number four position of his own, and along with him, the top five has done well for the team. Your top batters need to play out the bulk of the overs, and that’s what they are doing. When your overseas players like Markram, Pooran come good, nothing like it, and Tripathi and Abhishek doing their job,” said Jaffer.
