The Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane is confident of the spinning duo R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja performing well in South Africa. Virat Kohli led side has embarked on the gruelling tour where they will 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is against the Proteas. The Test series is all set to commence on January 5 in Cape Town as the tour will conclude on February 24. The fast bowlers are expected to pick more wickets during the tour as the pitch aids them more often than not. However, Rahane believes the duo is capable of troubling the batsmen in alien conditions as well.

R Ashwin has been the premier spinner for India during the grand home season albeit in Tests. Even Jadeja has been sidelined from the limited overs games given the success of the wrist spinners in the format. Though they remain the vital cog of the team in whites and have won many games for India on their own. Team India will be travelling mostly in 2018 and they will have to prove themselves that they have the skills to fox the batsmen in the alien conditions.

I am sure they are capable of doing well abroad

Ajinkya Rahane, while speaking to India Today, expressed his confidence in the duo and felt they have the skills to deliver during the overseas tours. “I feel Ashwin and Jadeja have it in them to deliver abroad and not only in India. See when you play in India you have to bowl in a certain way and. If you see Moeen Ali, Nathan Lyon if they are playing in England or Australia, they have to bowl with a different style,” he said before leaving to South Africa.

“So, Ashwin and Jadeja are doing really well (at home) at the moment but I am sure they are capable of doing well abroad as well. Yes, they have to change their style a bit, skills a bit, have to bowl at a different pace but I completely believe that and I am confident that whoever plays or if both of them plays they will do well in abroad,” Rahane added. While the team management has shown faith in them, it remains to be seen if both play in the same XI in the first Test. Graeme Smith has recently opined that Cape Town Test would be the best chance for India to get ahead in the series as it offers turn in the later stages of the game.
