Two of the biggest players for their respective teams, Jasprit Bumrah and Ajinkya Rahane, are set to miss the Ranji Trophy finals. Defending champions Mumbai will take on Gujarat in the finals of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 that commences on January 11. Rahane has been a veteran for the Mumbai side. However, he has not been a part of the team this season thus far owing to his national duties.

On the other hand, India’s new found pace sensation Bumrah has been instrumental in helping Gujarat make it to the finals of the coveted tournament after over 6 decades. He had scalped 7 wickets in the semi-final encounter against Jharkhand to lead Gujarat to the finals. Now, the two players are set to miss the all important final game.

This is because they have been named in the India A team that will take on England in the two warm-up matches. The ODI series between India and England commences on January 15 with the first ODI scheduled to be played in Pune. While Rahane was always in the mix of things to play the warm-up matches, Jasprit Bumrah found his name in the India A team as a late addition for the warm ups. The first warm-up match will be played on January 11.

Interestingly, the first warm up match will see MS Dhoni captain for perhaps the last time. MS Dhoni has been named as the captain of India A for the first practice match against England. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the India A team in the next encounter. Jasprit Bumrah is sure to get a place in the playing eleven of the Indian side in the series proper that begins in Pune.

At the same time, Rahane might find it tough to make it to the eleven. The likes of Yuvraj Singh have made a comeback to the side and hence the competition for the middle order has thickened up. In case one of the openers among Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul fail to be among the runs, Rahane might well fit in as the opener as well. Virat Kohli will be leading the team as the full-time Indian skipper for the first time.
