Ajinkya Rahane will give us reason to be proud of him: Sachin Tendulkar: What can be more heartening for a cricketer than earning words of praise from arguably the greatest cricket himself? Ajinkya Rahane has experienced just that as the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar heaped praises on him. The newly selected captain of India for the Zimbabwe tour Rahane will be the first India captain from Mumbai in 15 years since Sachin himself was temporarily named captain in 2000.
Sachin said: “I feel very happy for Ajinkya. He is a sincere and hardworking cricketer. I have always been impressed with his commitment and dedication. I am sure he will give his best and give us a reason to be proud of him. I wish him all the best,”
The selection of Rahane per se has come as a surprise to many people as Ajinkya was not even part of the last match of the recently concluded Bangladesh-India bilateral series. With the master blaster himself banking on Rahane’s talent, a lot would be expected of the diligent Mumbaikar.
Here are some of the tweets as fans react Rahane’s appointment as captain.
Can prove to be a nightmarish combo for the opposition according to Vignesh:
Welcum 2 captaincy jinx. Unexpected move. If clicked, his calm nature wil b a perfect combo fr virat's aggression. @ajinkyarahane88 #Rahane
