The 28th match of Vivo IPL 10 between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rising Pune Supergiant saw fortunes fluctuating from the one side to the other but in the end, the Steve Smith led Pune held their nerves and clinched a nail-biting thriller by just 3 runs in the final over. It was an impressive bowling performance by the visitors to halt MI’s unbeaten streak.
The hosts required 17 of the final over and the scales were obviously tilted in favour of the visitors. Jaydev Unadkat was entrusted with the final over and the left-arm seamer delivered almost immediately with the dismissal of Hardik Pandya in the very first delivery. It was a slower delivery and Pandya failed to connect properly and was holed out in the cover regions.
Captain Rohit Sharma kept the hosts in the game with a mighty blow over the stands in the 2nd delivery of the over. With 11 required off the last 4 anything could have happened but it was an umpiring decision which changed the course of the match. Unadkat bowled a short of length slower delivery outside the off stump and it was way outside way outside the wide line.
Rohit shuffled a bit but still the ball nowhere near his reach when he decided to leave the ball. But to his utter disbelief, the umpire didn’t give it a wide and Rohit was left fuming. He went up to the umpire and had a chat and looked totally flabbergasted with the decision. The drop in concentration eventually brought about his downfall in the next delivery as he top-edged a slower delivery from Unadkat straight up in the air, and the bowler eventually completed the catch in two attempts.
Pune eventually came triumphant by 3 runs after Harbhajan Singh struck a six in the final delivery of the over. One of the biggest names in Bollywood circuit, Amitabh Bachchan took to his twitter handle and expressed his disappointment at the horrendous decision given by the umpire which eventually changed the complexion of the match.
“That was a wide ball in the last over, by miles !! Not giving it has cost MI the game .. !! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH !!!” Amitabh wrote on his twitter handle. Incidentally, Mumbai has lost just a couple of games in this season so far and both their defeats came against the unpredictable Pune side. Mumbai Indians faces Gujarat Lions in their next encounter on 29th and will surely look to get back to their winning ways.

@SrBachchan No it wasn't sir. When batsman moves in his crease, then ball can't be given wide w. r. t. to the line. Very fare rule. #sportsmanship
