Top 10 Captains With Most 50 Plus Scores In International Cricket: A batsman who leads his team has to keep scoring runs well at the same time with off field decisions. But only a few had done well with both captaincy and scoring big for a long period. Here we look at the Top 10 Captains With Most 50 Plus Scores In International Cricket. 10. Brian Lara, West Indies – 56: Brian Lara. (© Getty Images) The West Indian legendary batsman, Brian Lara had showed his consistency with bat also while leading the side as he scored 56 fifty plus scores in the 204 innings he batted as captain out of which 19 fifties turned out to be three digit scores. In Tests, out of 85 innings he had 33 fifty plus scores and on 14 occasions, he converted them into centuries. In 143 ODI innings as captain he had a better record scoring 41 fifty plus scores out of which 11 turned out to be 3 digit scores. 8. Mohammad Azharuddin, India – 59: Mohammad Azharuddin. (© Getty Images) Same as the other Indian captain Ganguly, Mohammad Azharuddin also had 59 fifty plus scores as captain but taken 12 more innings than the left hander. In ODIs, Azhar batted in 162 innings as captain and has 41 fifty plus scores with 4 centuries out of those. Coming to Tests, he scored 9 centuries out of the 18 fifty plus scores in the 68 innings as captain. 7. Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan – 62: Misbah-ul-Haq. In 163 innings as captain, Misbah scored 62 fifty plus scores and out of those, 52 remained as fifties. Misbah’s 6 centuries came in Tests, the format in which he recorded a total of 35 fifty plus scores in just 73 innings as captain. In the ODI format, he failed to score a century but he had 27 fifty plus scores in the 83 innings he acted as captain. He led his side even in T20Is but haven’t recorded any fifty plus scores in the 7 innings he batted. 6. Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka – 65: Arjuna Ranatunga. Out of 37 fifty plus scores Ranatunga has scored in 183 innings as captain, he scored 4 centuries. However, in Test cricket Arjuna had 24 fifty plus scores in 92 innings out of which 2 were three-digit scores. 5. Allan Border, Australia – 80: Allan Border. (© Getty Images) The Australian legendary captain Allan Border with 80 fifty plus scores as captain is equaled by the Indian skipper MS Dhoni, but in 23 excess innings. Border who had been the highest run scores in Test format during his time has 51 fifty plus scores in 154 Test innings as captain along with 15 centuries. However, in ODI cricket he had only 29 fifty plus scores in 165 innings which includes 2 centuries. 4. MS Dhoni, India – 81: MS Dhoni. He failed to score a fifty in 44 innings in T20Is but has 52 fifty plus scores in just 166 ODI innings as captain including 6 centuries. However, compared to ODIs his Test record was pretty ordinary as he managed to put on 29 fifty plus scores out of which 5 were centuries in the 96 innings he batted as captain. Fleming failed to score a fifty plus score in the 5 innings as captain but he managed 45 fifty plus scores with 7 centuries in 208 innings an ODI captain. His Test record as captain was even better as he recorded 39 fifty plus scores in 135 innings. 2. Graeme Smith, South Africa – 110: Graeme Smith. (© Getty Images) South Africa’s most successful captain, Graeme Smith is one of the two players who scored more than 100, 50+ scores as captain in international Cricket. Smith, who has scored 110 fifty plus scores in 368 innings as captain, stand 2nd in the current list. Smith has 61, half century plus scores in 193 Test innings as captain along with 25 centuries. In ODIs, he had 45 fifty plus scores in 148 innings including 8 three-digit scores. He managed 4 fifty plus scores in T20Is as well in 27 innings as a captain. 1. Ricky Ponting, Australia – 129: Ricky Ponting. (© Getty Images) Undoubtedly, Ricky Ponting has been the most successful captain in the world, and has also been a great batsman on the other hand. He tops the list of most fifty plus scores as captain in International cricket with 129 scores over fifty in 376 innings as captain. He might have only 2 fifty plus scores in 17 T20Is innings as captain but has 73 fifty plus scores in just 220 ODI innings which includes 22 centuries. Ponting’s Test record as captain has been impressive as he recorded 54 fifty plus scores with 19 centuries in the 140 innings.
