Former India cricketer VVS Laxman has begun his stint as the new head of the National Cricket Academy on Monday, December 13. He thus took it to his official Twitter account to share pictures of his first day at the office.

Laxman takes the responsibility from his former India teammate Rahul Dravid who is now appointed as the head coach of the senior Indian team. He replaced Ravi Shastri whose tenure with the Indian team ended post the T20 World Cup 2021.

Laxman wrote that he is all raring to take up the new challenge and work on the future of Indian cricket. “First day in office at the NCA! An exciting new challenge in store, look forward to the future and to working with the future of Indian cricket,” his Tweet read.

VVS Laxman takes over as NCA chief:

The former India cricketer has a plethora of experience under his sleeves. Previously Dravid groomed the younger talents at the NCA and the results of it were seen by the cricketing fraternity as the youngsters exuded their flair to climb greater heights. His efforts in building the budding cricketers are also evident by the fact that India currently possesses a strong bench strength.

Dravid had taken over the mantle in the year 2019 after having served as the head coach of the U-19 and India A teams. The same is expected from Laxman as he has been also associated with IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad as their mentor. He was also the batting consultant for six years at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

Opening up on his appointment the former India pacer Irfan Pathan wished Laxman for his new role. He also added that currently, he is the best person to take up the role and that under his guidance the NCA will only flourish.

“Congratulations @VVSLaxman281 Bhai for your new role in Indian cricket. There is no better man at this moment to hold this post of NCA than you. Under your guidance NCA will only flourish!,” Pathan’s tweet read.

India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also came forward to wish the former cricketer. He took it to his official Twitter account and wrote, “New class teacher in town! 🤩🤩 good luck lachi Bhai!.”
