The inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is currently in progress in Sri Lanka. The tournament has already attracted a lot of attention thanks to close matches and quality of cricket being played. On Saturday, the first double header of the competition was played and the second game of the day saw Colombo Kings and Galle Gladiators locking horns.

The game was ruined with rain making its presence felt and the interruption was long that it was reduced to five-over per side. It was a perfect game for a player like Andre Russell who slammed a 14-ball fifty and went on to smash 65 runs off just 19 balls hitting nine fours and four gigantic sixes. However, the Caribbean swashbuckler hogged the limelight for yet another reason.

He batted with the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) gloves in LPL and the fans were quick to point it out soon. Interestingly, he didn’t play a big knock for his IPL franchise in the recently concluded season and has finally hit form in the T20 League in Sri Lanka.

Also, this is not the first time that a player has been spotted wearing the IPL gloves in the other leagues. Only recently Sherfane Rutherford was seen wearing the Mumbai Indians’ gloves while batting for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super Kings (PSL). Rather he ended up winning two trophies within a week.

Colombo Kings win comfortably

Thanks to Andre Russell’s blitzkrieg, Colombo Kings ended up posting a mammoth 96 runs on the board in five overs. Mohammad Amir was taken apart for 46 runs in his two overs while Asitha Fernando also went for 26 runs in the lone over he bowled. The chase was never going .o be easy for the Gladiators .

But Danushka Gunathilaka tried his best scoring 30 off just 15 balls. However, not many runs came from the other end at the expected pace. Ashan Priyanjan bowled a game-changing over going only one run in his over and also picked up a wicket to restrict the opposition to just 62 runs in five overs.
