Andrew Strauss appointed England team Director as Coach Peter Moores is shown the door: The England and Whales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced appointment of former England skipper Andrew Strauss as the Director of the England cricket team. At the same time head coach of the English team Peter Moores has been shown the door.
Strauss who is famously remembered for the two Ashes wins that the team secured under his leadership and reached the peak of ICC Test teams ranking. He played 100 test matches out of which he led the team in 50, has scored 7037 runs with 21 hundreds and 27 fifties. The former opener is also regarded as one of the best batsman that has played for the team.
Moores on his sacking said: “I will walk away knowing I’ve given my all. I knew when I took on the role that this was going to be a tough period for English cricket and I would need time and support to get new players through,”
“My frustration is not being given that time.” He further added.
ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison in a statement on ecb.co.uk, on Straus’s appointment said: “Andrew’s breadth of ideas, his passion for England cricket and his proven leadership skills shone out.
“He was an exceptional England captain, is an authoritative voice on the modern game and has a wealth of experience building successful teams.
“Andrew’s also widely respected across the sporting landscape. We’re delighted he’s joining us at the ECB as we set out to create a new strategy for the game.”
