Angry Indians slam Barmy Army for distasteful tweet on Sachin Tendulkar's birthday

The Barmy Army posted an image of Sachin from one of his Tests against England where the veteran batter can be seen walking back to the pavilion.

Former India skipper and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on April 24  (Sunday) turned 49 and wishes poured in from all across the cricketing globe for the Master Blaster. However, Indian fans were left furious on the micro-blogging site Twitter after England’s Barmy Army, the fan group of England cricket, wished the Indian veteran on the social media site.

The Barmy Army posted an image of Sachin from one of his Tests against England where the veteran batter can be seen walking back to the pavilion as England players are celebrating his wickets in a huddle. The post was captioned “Happy Birthday Little Master”. The distasteful tweet did not sit well with the Indian fans, who cricticised the Barmy Army.

Talking about Tendulkar’s numbers against England, the right-handed batter has smashed 3990 runs in just 69 matches across formats. The little master has also stroked 23 half-centuries and nine hundreds. It may be noted that Tendulkar is highest Asian run -getter against the Three Lions.

Getting on his international numbers, Tendulkar has amassed a total of 34,357 runs in 664 matches for his country. The right-handed batter has stroked 100 hundreds and 164 fifties across formats of the game. In 50-over format, the right-handed played a total of 463 matches and scored 18,426 runs with 49 centuries and 96 fifties.

In Tests, the 49-year-old played 200 matches and has stroked 15,921 runs at an excellent average of 53.79 with 68 fifties and 51 centuries. He is the leading run-getter not just in these two formats, but also in international cricket. Tendulkar also made one T20I appearance for his country and scored ten runs in that match.

The Master Blaster is presently part of the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) squad as their mentor. To note, the Men in Blue and Gold will take on the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next group stage encounter on April 24 (Sunday) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. MI will want to win their match against LSG and open their account in IPL 2022 after seven losses in a row.
