Another ODI record in sight for Babar Azam

Ever since Babar Azam made his debut in international cricket, he has been in prime form, especially in limited overs cricket. In 35 One Day Internationals, the Lahore-born cricketer has racked up as many as 7 centuries and 7 half-centuries at a staggering average of 58.60.

In the T20I format, he boasts off an average of 54 and a handsome strike-rate of 126. In the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, the right-handed batsman has performed exceptionally well, racking up 303 runs at an astounding average of 101.

Recently, Azam became the first ever batsman to score 5 consecutive ODI centuries in a particular nation, breaking AB de Villiers’ record of 4 centuries in India from 2010 to 2011. He achieved the feat when he piled on 101 in the second ODI at Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, he also became the fastest to 7 ODI centuries in 33 games, overhauling Hashim Amla’s record in 41 matches.

Yet another record in the offing

Moving forward, there’s another record to pounce on for the Pakistani middle-order batsman.If Azam scores 242 runs in his next four innings, he would become the fastest batsman to 2000 runs in One Day Internationals.

Hashim Amla achieved the feat in a mere 40 innings, which manifests the caliber of the individual. Babar Azam is currently sitting at 1758 runs in 35 innings and with the kind of form he is in, there’s every possibility for the youngster to clinch the record.

An opportunity to enter into an elite list

There are some big names featuring the list, including the legendary Pakistan batsman- Zaheer Abbas. The list also comprises the likes of Sir Vivian Richards, Gordon Greenidge, Alistair Cook and Gary Kirsten. Babar Azam has simply been a revelation of Pakistan in the limited-overs formats.
