India skipper Virat Kohli, on Thursday, took to his official social media handles to announce his decision to step down from the role of captaining in the T20I format after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Recently, a report had emerged as to how Kohli was thinking on those lines to at least give captaincy in one format to focus on his batting more.

While few of the experts felt Kohli’s decision was selfless, others were surprised by this call as he was doing extremely well as a leader and batter in all the shortest format.  In his Instagram post, Kohli thanked BCCI, his coaches, players, and fans for being part of his beautiful journey. He also mentioned it was a tough decision to make for him and how he had talked about the same with India head coach Ravi Shastri and vice-captain Rohit Sharma.

“Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for the last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian Team in Test and ODI Cricket. I have given everything to the Team during my time as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 Team as a batsman moving forward.”

Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli’s wife was quick to see the post shared by her husband and reacted to it by putting a heart emoji. The popular Bollywood actor also shared her husband’s post on her official Instagram account. Anushka is currently with Kohli in Dubai for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
