Former Bangladeshi cricketer Arafat Sunny finds himself amidst huge controversy as he has been charged with a dowry case. The court went on to issue an arrest warrant against the cricketer and the case seems to be a pretty serious one.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu passed the order against the bowler after hearing the case at 11.30 today. According to Arafat’s lawyer Muraduzzaman they put forward a petition in front of the court to suspend today’s hearing but the court ruled it out.

To pile on the misery his bail has been cancelled and an arrest warrant was issued against Arafat Sunny. On January 20, a woman claiming to be Sunny’s wife filed the case against him. In the case statement, she accused the cricketer of demanding 20 Lakhs as dowry from her family after the two tied knots. Not only him but his mother was also charged in the issue. He violated the “Women and Children Repression Prevention Act”.

The left-arm spinner has featured in 16 ODIs for Bangladesh whereas his T20 career has seen just 10 matches. The spinner uses his shoulder, arms and wrist to deliver a ball which has the capability to bewilder the batsmen. In his 16 One Day Internationals, Sunny has picked up a total of 24 wickets. As far as the T20s are concerned, he has just 12 wickets under his belt.

History:

This is not the first time Arafat Sunny has grabbed the headlines for non-cricketing scandals. On January 22, 2017, police broke into the cricketer’s house in Dhaka suburb of Aminbazar after they received a complaint from his long time girlfriend.

“She said Sunny opened up a fake Facebook account of hers and posted their personal photos, which she found offensive and defamatory,” said the local police.

“We have arrested him and sent him to the court, seeking to take him into custody for five days for questioning.” Added the police chief.
