Arjun Tendulkar misses run-up in his first ball in his first ever youth international game

The Indian U19 team is currently in Sri Lanka for a couple of four-day matches followed by five One Dayers. The opening match between Sri Lanka  A and India A got underway today in Colombo. Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, made his first appearance at the U19 level. Prior to the start of the series, there were speculations surrounding his performance.

The spotlight was always on the youngster owing to the stardom he carries on his shoulders. He opened the bowling for his team and it took him only 12 balls to pick up his maiden wicket in Youth Internationals. The left-arm fast-bowler picked up the wicket of opener Kamil Mishara, the 17-year-old left-handed opener from Colombo, in his second over.

Arjun’s initial stutter

The batter hit a couple of boundaries to take his team off to a flying start after which Tendulkar struck first-blood for the visiting team. Prior to the match, Arjun Tendulkar’s nerves would’ve jangled and the adrenaline-rush would’ve run through his veins. His nervousness was evident from the manner he took his run-up. He had a look at the ball and rubbed his hands on it in order to shine the leather.

He took a small step and then embarked on his run-up. He was tall and upright, most importantly focused to start on a decent note. Just when it seemed that he would deliver without much trouble, he pulled out. The umpires signalled a dead-ball and Arjun had to start all over again. He had a chat with the fielder at mid-off and then marked his run-up, this time to successfully deliver.

He churned out a full-length delivery, which shaped a tad away from the batsman, who tried to drive the ball but mistimed it to mid-off. Arjun completed his follow-through and would’ve been relieved after his jittery start.
