Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, didn’t have the greatest of outings prior to the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, which gets underway on January 10. The youngster played in the warm-up matches and had a tough time, both with the bat and ball in hand. In four matches, representing Team D, Arjun could only manage seven runs and pick up four wickets.

Going by his performance, it remains to be seen whether or not he gets picked for Mumbai’s main squad for the upcoming domestic T20 league. Back in 2018, he made his U19 debut against Sri Lanka, but he has failed to represent Mumbai. He also played in the 2019 Mumbai T20 league. He has been playing cricket in England, representing the Marylebone Cricket Club Young Cricketers.

Arjun Tendulkar going for quite a few

As far as the practice matches are concerned, he started in a decent manner with a spell of 4-0-23-2 in the first game against Team C. In the very next match against Team B, Tendulkar picked up one wicket in his four overs and gave away 33 runs. Against Team A, Tendulkar had a torrid time as he conceded as many as 37 runs. In one of the games, Suryakumar Yadav hit him for 21 runs.

With the T20 league set to start in a couple of weeks, the Mumbai Cricket Association is set to name the squad in two days or so. If selected, it will be the first time when Tendulkar would be representing the Mumbai senior team. The 21-year-old Arjun had also bowled to the Indian batsmen during net sessions and gave them a tough time with his left-arm seam bowling.

Arjun had also travelled to the United Arab Emirates as Mumbai Indians’ net bowler for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. In the meantime, right-arm fast bowler Tushar Deshpande was the leading wicket-taker in the practice games with nine wickets.

He is expected to share the new ball with Dhawal Kulkarni. Playing for Delhi Capitals in the IPL also did Deshpande a world of good. In the batting department, Suryakumar smashed 240 runs, including a century. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube also did their bit.
