India bid a winning farewell to one of the best left-arm pacers of the country Ashish Nehra on Wednesday by defeating New Zealand in the first T20I. He also bowled the last over of the match with 61 runs under his belt and was emotional while delivering the final ball of his illustrious career. However, he didn’t miss an opportunity to amaze everyone and stopped the ball with his foot while fielding at fine leg during the course of the game. Everyone was seen smiling after his efforts and the crowd cheered loudly when it was shown on the big screen.

India were sitting pretty in the match and things were going literally flat during their defence of a mammoth total of 203. New Zealand batsman edged the bowl behind the wickets off Yuzvendra Chahal which was travelling towards the boundary courtesy quick outfield. But Nehra Ji brought all his experience to the fore and stopped the ball with his foot while running backwards. The ball popped up into his hands straight away and only single was conceded. Though it didn’t make much of the difference in the game, surely the moment lit up the crowd and also the skipper Virat Kohli absolutely loved it.

Even the commentator on air, Sunil Gavaskar appreciated the efforts of the veteran and also said that if Yuvraj Singh would be watching the game, he would surely write about this. The official Twitter handle of BCCI posted the video of the funny incident and cheekily asked Yuvi to comment on it. They captioned the video as, “How’s that for footy skills from our very own Nehraji? What do you make of that @YUVSTRONG12 😉 #INDvNZ.”

How did Nehra perform in the game?

Ashish Nehra was the mainstay of this game and everyone was anticipating his spell to begin. The 38-year-old opened the bowling for his country for one final time and conceded only 5 runs. He also smartly kept the batsman guessing by varying the line and length of his deliveries. Unfortunately, he could not pick up a wicket on the day but created pressure from one end and helped deliver wickets from other. He finished his quota of four overs and gave away only 29 runs.
