The 2018 Asia Cup is only a couple of days away and teams are trying their best to get themselves prepared for the multi-nation tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A few days ago Pakistan announced their 16-man squad for the event and they undoubtedly look a strong bunch at least on paper. Their first encounter is against qualifier Hong Kong on September 16 in Dubai.

In the meantime, Aamer Sohail, the former Pakistani batsman, believes that India and Sri Lanka have the ability to pose threat to Sarfraz Ahmed’s men. Moreover, he also advised the Men in Green to closely scrutinise the tactics of the oppositions in order to outclass them in all the departments. Moreover, he reckons that Pakistan will have a upper hand owing to their experience of playing in the UAE.

Pakistan will definitely have an upper hand

India and Sri Lanka are tough teams and good competition is expected from them, so Pakistan must monitor carefully how the opposition is executing its plans,” Sohail was quoted as saying in The Telegraph.

“Pakistan will definitely have an upper hand against all the teams as they have played in the UAE more than everybody else,” he added.

Pakistan have won the event only twice in 2000 and 2012 respectively and the numbers are the least among the other winners of the Asia Cup. Last time around in 2016, the team captained by Shahid Afridi finished third on the points table and bowled out of the event. They won against Sri Lanka and UAE but lost to India and Bangladesh.

After playing Hong Kong, they will lock horns against India in the tournament’s marquee class on September 19 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The arch-rivals also have a chance to meet in the Super 4, provided they qualify, something which doesn’t seem unlikely for the time being.
