India will kick-start their Asia Cup campaign facing Hong Kong in their maiden appearance at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Hong Kong, on the other hand, could well be playing their last ODI game for a while having lost their ODI status early on. The Associate team has failed terribly with the bat and won’t find it any ease against the strong Indian bowling line-up.

India won’t field in all the players returning after the completion of the England tour as they would be playing Pakistan on the very next day. Hong Kong will be hoping to produce their best to try and trouble the top-ranked Asian team.

Team India has recently failed to score some big totals while batting first irrespective of the conditions they played in. In the last ten ODIs where India batted first in the last one year, they crossed the 300-run mark only on three occasions. Two of those included Rohit Sharma’s big centuries and a 150+ score by Virat Kohli in South Africa this year.

India made as many as seven 300+ totals while batting first in the ten matches of 40+ overs between January 2016 and August 2017. The team led by Rohit Sharma might prefer to bat first which could help them revisit their template while batting first as they will need to put up big totals in the important games moving forward in this tournament.

After a poor outing against Pakistan, Hong Kong might be happy to bowl first given India’s struggles in the recent times while batting first. It will also provide an opportunity for Hong Kong bowlers to come out good like against Pakistan where they faired decently in the defence of their 116-run total. It will give them a better chance to bowl with the pressure of a target to defend. The Associate side has done well while chasing recently as they won three games batting second in the Asia Cup Qualifier.
