India recently won the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), beating Bangladesh in a nail-biting final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium by three wickets. The encounter went right down to the wire and eventually, Rohit Sharma won the match off the last ball. Mahmudullah bowled the last over and Kedar Jadhav and Kuldeep Yadav needed six runs to score.

Jadhav glided the leather down to fine leg to score the winning runs for India. The Men in Blue are currently the most successful team in the multi-nation event having won seven editions ever since the tournament’s inception back in 1984, which was also won by India. Rohit Sharma and Co strained to find their feet in the final against Mashrafe Mortaza’s men.

Rohit praises team and fans

After India won the toss and elected to field first, the first 20 overs went against them as Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz composed a 120-run stand, but they made a comeback and bowled the Tigers out for 222 runs. The run chase turned out to be a roller coaster ride and eventually Rohit’s men prevailed. After the victory, Rohit praised the entire team for their collective efforts.

Rohit himself was in incredible form, both as the skipper and as the batsman. The 31-year-old turned out to be the second highest run scorer with 317 runs from five matches at an awe-inspiring average of 105.66. His top score of 11 not out came against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage. Moreover, he thanked the supporters for cheering them in the scorching Dubai heat.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “This Asia cup wasn’t just about one player,it was about the entire unit both on and off the field. Such a special game & such a special win. Most importantly our unbelievable fans who cheered us throughout the games in that heat helped us raise this trophy!”
