The Pakistan cricket team was enjoying decent success in 2018 in the one-day format, but come the Asia Cup, the team as a whole failed to perform. Be it batting, bowling or fielding, Pakistan were miserable in all three departments. A strong eight-wicket win over Hong Kong in the tournament opener was a sign that the Men in Green would be a force to reckon with in the tournament,  but it was followed by an eight-wicket defeat to India, a last-over win over Afghanistan, and then consecutive losses to India and Bangladesh.

Following their poor campaign, several fans on social media are demanding for the skipper Sarfraz Ahmed to be sacked. He was poor with both the bat and his leadership skills, and after the loss to Bangladesh in the virtual semi-final, himself accepted that he performed very poorly for his team.

Sarfraz had led Pakistan to their first ever Champions Trophy win last year, after which he was made the captain in the longest format too. However, a year down the line, the 31-year-old is being criticised for being a very impulsive captain who takes hasty decisions.

Meanwhile, after the loss to Bangladesh and a premature exit from the Asia Cup, Careem, a Dubai-based taxi service-provider has taken a dig at Sarfraz Ahmed captain. He cheekily offered him a role in his company indirectly expressing himself that he should be dropped from the team after a lacklustre show.

To tweet something like this to an international captain is quite demeaning, and perhaps Careem could have been more polite with his tweet.

Less confident Pakistan

Pakistan team was high on confidence when they entered the tournament but a confidence shattering loss to India in the group stage turned their Asia Cup campaign upside down. An eight-wicket loss followed by an even more thumping nine-wicket defeat in the Super Four stage against India raised doubts in the team’s mind itself about their ability. Even the coach Mickey Arthur had then accepted that there was a fear of failure in the dressing room which eventually went against them.
