A calm chase from Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli helped India make light work of their chase of 121 in the final in Mirpur that brought them their sixth Asia Cup title. This was after a thunderstorm and a Mahmudullah’s brilliant knock in India’s way. That the match took place was a miracle, given the amount of rain that lashed Dhaka 90 minutes before the start of play. The Men in Blue remained unbeaten in the competition and will head into the World T20 feeling mighty confident. Here are the Indian Player Ratings for their performances throughout the Asia Cup T20 2016.

Rohit Sharma – 5/10:

Rohit Sharma had a largely disappointing Asia Cup. The only standout knock he produced was against Bangladesh in the opening encounter. He managed 138 runs from 5 innings at an average of 27.60. The other knock that contributed to this was the 39 he scored against UAE. He hit 17 fours and 4 sixes striking at 132.69 in the competition.

Shikhar Dhawan – 5/10:

Shikhar Dhawan’s four innings produced 79 runs at an average of 26.33 however this was largely due to his knock of 60 in the final. The southpaw has had his troubles in the shortest format of the game. His 18 T20I innings have produced only 373 runs including 2 fifties. For a batsman of his calibre, these are rather disappointing returns.

Ajinkya Rahane – 2/10:

Ajinkya Rahane played just one match in the competition when he came he replaced Shikhar Dhawan. This was against Pakistan in a run-chase of 84. Mohammad Amir’s incisive spell had reduced India to 8/3 and Rahane was one of his victims having failed to open his account. On the field, though, the Mumbaikar made a contribution by taking a sharp catch at first slip off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah that sent back Pakistani opener Sharjeel Khan.

Virat Kohli – 9.5/10:

Easily India’s best batsman in the T20 and ODI formats, Virat Kohli had a brilliant Asia Cup. He scored runs and took his team over the line on 3 occasions when the stakes were high. His knocks against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and in the final against Bangladesh proved why he is highly rated in world cricket. Virat made 153 runs from 4 innings at an average of 76.50. His best was an unbeaten 56 he scored against the Lankans.

Suresh Raina – 2/10:

Suresh Raina has a miserable tournament and failed to fire. His 3 innings produced just 39 runs with a top score of 25 at an average of 13.00. He bowled one wicket-less over against Sri Lanka and conceded 9 runs. He made a contribution in the field by taking 3 catches and moving around energetically as he usually does.

Yuvraj Singh – 7/10:

Yuvraj Singh had decent hit in the tourney and got his fluency back. His 4 innings produced 89 runs at an average of 44.50. His 18-ball 35 against Sri Lanka included 3 fours and an equal number of sixes. In the tournament, he also contributed with the ball by picking up 2 wickets. He conceded only 24 runs off his 5 overs.

Hardik Pandya – 7.5/10:

Hardik Pandya bowled 17.3 overs and picked up 7 wickets at an average of 14.71. His best spell of 3/8 was against Pakistan. He conceded 103 runs at an economy rate of 5.88. His 3 innings with the bat produced 33 runs that featured a brilliant 31 off just 18 balls against Bangladesh in the first match. His fielding was spectacular and he took 3 catches.

MS Dhoni – 8/10:

MS Dhoni was brilliant behind the stumps and took 6 catches to go with one stumping. His captaincy was spot on and he made batting order changes perfectly. The guys like Yuvraj and Pandya were promoted to get a hit and the move worked. Dhoni’s 4 innings with the bat produced 42 runs at a strike rate of 280.00. He remained unbeaten on these 4 occasions.

Ravindra Jadeja – 6/10:

Ravindra Jadeja bowled 12 overs and picked up 3 wickets at an average of 26.66. He conceded 80 runs at an economy rate of 6.66. His best spell of 2/11 off 3 overs was against Pakistan. He didn’t have anything to do with the bat in the tourney.

Ravichandran Ashwin – 7/10:

India’s premier off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin bowled 14 overs and picked up 4 wickets at an average of 21.00. He conceded 84 runs at an economy rate of 6.00. His best spell of 2/26 off 4 overs was against Sri Lanka. Ashwin used his variation well throughout the competition.

Harbhajan Singh – 8/10:

The veteran off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh played just one match when he replaced R Ashwin against UAE. He was brilliant and bowled his quota of 4 overs. He conceded just 11 runs and also picked up a wicket. The flight and drift were there for all to see.

Ashish Nehra – 6/10:

The left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra proved expensive, particularly in the final, however, picked up important wickets for India. He bowled 14 overs and picked up 6 wickets at an average of 16.50. He conceded 99 runs at an economy rate of 7.07. His best spell of 3/23 was against the home side in the opening encounter.

Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10:

Bumrah bowled brilliantly throughout the competition and mostly kept the batsmen in check. He bowled 18 overs including 2 maidens and picked up 6 wickets at an average of 15.66. He conceded 94 runs at an economy rate of 5.22. His best spell of 2/27 was against the Lankans.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 9/10:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar played just one match, however, proved a big positive for India ahead of the World T20. He was exceptional in his 4-over spell of 2/8 against UAE and the manner in which he swung the ball was pleasing to see. If Mohammad Shami were to be ruled out of the World T20, Bhuvi proved that he is ready to do the job.

Pawan Negi – 7/10:

The talented all-rounder from Delhi got his India cap, in the shortest format, in the match against UAE. He bowled 3 overs for 16 and picked up a wicket. He took 2 catches and also helped in effecting a run-out. He thus had a lively international debut. He didn’t get a chance to bat in the only game he played.
