Asia Cup T20: Pakistan v Sri Lanka – Statistical Highlights

In a virtual No.3 spot game, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to end their Asia Cup T20 campaign with a win. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to bat. Their decision worked out as their openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal gave their side a great with a century stand for the opening wicket. However, Sri Lanka couldn’t carry on the momentum and ended up with just 150/4 on the board.

Pakistan too had a good start to their innings as their top order was amongst the runs. Sharjeel Khan and Sarfraz Ahmed laid the platform by scoring 30s while Umar Akmal fell 2 runs of a well-deserved fifty when scores were level. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

3 – Sri Lanka has used 3 different captains in this Asia Cup. This is the first time in a T20I series or tournament, where a team used more than 2 different captains. Across all the formats, this is the 3rd time SL used 3 different captains in a tournament. Asia Cup 1988 and Asian Test Championship in 1999 are the other 2 instances.

4 – Number of fifties Dinesh Chandimal has scored so far in T20Is. Two of those have come while opening in 4 innings. While not opening, he scored just 1 fifty in 28 innings.

7 – This was the 7th instance in T20Is where Pakistan chased down a target of 150 and more. They failed to chase the same on 8 other occasions.

8 – Number of bowlers Sri Lanka used in the match, the joint most bowlers any team has used in a T20I.

10 – Number of times Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in T20Is, the joint most times a team defeated a certain opposition in T20Is. South Africa defeated New Zealand in 10 T20Is as well.

13 – Number of fifty plus score Tillakaratne Dilshan has scored in T20Is. Only Brendon McCullum (15) and Chris Gayle (14) have more fifty-plus scores in this format than Dilshan.

15 – Number of times Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced each other in T20Is. 15 T20Is have been played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka as well, the most in T20Is between 2 sides.

50 – Percentage of team’s runs Tillakaratne Dilshan has scored during his innings. This is the 4th time he has scored 50% of runs in a completed T20I innings.

110 – Partnership runs between Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal. This is the 2nd highest opening stand for Sri Lanka in T20Is.

209 – Number of fours Tillakaratne Dilshan has hit in T20Is. He is the 1st batsman to hit 200 fours in this format. Brendon McCullum had 199 fours in T20Is.

5055 – Runs scored by Tillakaratne Dilshan in overall Twenty20 format. He is now the 15th player and 1st Sri Lankan to complete 5000 runs in T20s.

2012 – Last time when 3 among the Pakistan’s top 4 batsmen scored more than 30 runs in a T20I was in 2012.
